I don't know about where you are, but we are feeling Summer here in SoCal. I imagine just like anyone when you're feeling overheated, you might want to grab a tall glass of super cold iced water, but this cannot only shock your system by constricting your blood vessels making it harder to hydrate, but also dampen your digestive fire.
Instead, reach for a glass of cool to room temperature water or for something tasty try Cardamom Limeade!
Lime and cardamom are naturally cooling all alone, and together they work like magic to bring down the heat, without disrupting the digestive fire. Both lime and cardamom are tridoshic, alkalizing and are powerful digestive aids.
These two things alone are adequate for serious cooling but you can also throw in a pinch of sea salt and a bit of natural sugar and it becomes a replenishing electrolyte drink - perfect for dehydration! Add a spring or two of mint, another digestive aid that is naturally cooling and you're ready to take on the heat.
Ingredients: ~ Water - 3 cups ~ Fresh-squeezed lime juice (2-3 limes) ~ Cardamom powder - 1/4 tsp
~ Pinch of Sea Salt ~ Honey - 1 tsp or ~ Coconut sugar - 1tbsp dissolved in 1 Tbsp of hot water
Mix all the ingredients together in a small pitcher. Serve a glass with 1-2 small ice cubes.
Stay cool, hydrated and smiling!
